Cut
The cut indicates the physical shape of the diamond. It measures the angles and proportions that were created in the diamond and how it releases its fire and sparkle. It is the only parameter from the 4 c’s that is not determined by nature- it is determined by men.

The cut of the stone causes light to be dispersed and reflected between the facets. A well proportioned cut causes the highest sparkle and fire. The traditional round brilliant diamond is cut with 58 facets.

Well proportioned cut

If a diamond is cut too shallow, light escapes through the bottom and the diamond is less brilliant.

Too shallow cut

If a diamond is too deep, light escapes through the side of the diamond, causing it to be less brilliant.
